Mini Lotus Seed Pods

Mini Lotus Seed Pods are a smaller variety of the iconic lotus flower seed head, sourced from the Nelumbo nucifera plant. Their petite honeycomb structure makes them one of the most versatile botanicals in the hobby — equally at home in a nano shrimp tank, an aquascape, an isopod enclosure, or a springtail culture. A perfect fit for the botanical method aquarium and blackwater biotope setups.

Product Details

• Scientific Name: Nelumbo nucifera
• Source Location: India
• Size: Approximately 0.75 to 1.25 inches
• 100% Natural: Organically sourced and naturally dried, free from artificial chemicals — safe and sustainable for all applications

Uses

• Aquarium: When properly prepared, mini lotus pods release a moderate amount of tannins, promote biofilm, and create microfauna hotspots — providing perfectly scaled hiding spots for nano fish, dwarf shrimp, and snails. Their small chambers are ideal for neocaridina and caridina shrimp during molting. Great for blackwater and biotope aquascaping.
• Springtail Culture: Mini lotus pods are a top choice for springtail harvesting — springtails pack into every chamber, making them easy to transfer directly into a bioactive enclosure as a living "springtail delivery pod."
• Bioactive Terrarium: Provides hiding spots and a food source for isopods and springtails, enriches the substrate as they break down, and encourages foraging and exploration.
• Botanical Home Decor: Perfect as bowl fillers, in miniature arrangements, or integrated into terrariums and potpourri.
• Miniature Crafts: Their dainty size makes them ideal for fairy gardens, dollhouse accessories, jewelry making, and detailed craft projects.

Aquarium Preparation

1. Boil: Boil for at least 15 minutes to help them sink and leach initial tannins. Lotus pods can be difficult to waterlog — aquarium-safe weights may be needed.
2. Soak: Soak in clean water overnight or longer, changing water daily, until fully waterlogged and desired tannin level is reached.
3. Ready to Use: Once they sink and you've achieved your desired water coloration, add to your tank.

Please Note: As a natural product, each mini lotus pod will vary in size, shape, and color. Intended for decorative, craft, and aquarium/vivarium use only. Not for human consumption.
