Pear Pods

Pear seed pods are thick, sectioned pods from the Schrebera swietenoides tree, known by several common names including pear pods, mohka pods, and beguni fruit. One of the most durable botanicals available, pear pods hold their structure exceptionally well in both aquariums and terrariums, making them a long-lasting addition to any blackwater or biotope aquascape built on the botanical method.

Uses

• Aquarium: When properly prepared, pear pods release a moderate amount of tannins, promote biofilm, and provide natural hiding spots that stimulate natural behaviors in fish and shrimp. These are very dense pods that hold up exceptionally well over time — ideal for blackwater and biotope aquascaping.
• Springtail Culture: Pear pods are an excellent pod for harvesting springtails from a soil culture — their dense structure and sectioned form give springtails plenty of surface area to colonize.
• Bioactive Terrarium & Reptile Enclosures: Provides hiding spots and a food source for isopods, springtails, and reptiles. A safe, natural reptile nut and seed pod option that enriches the substrate as it breaks down.
• Botanical Home Decor: Perfect as bowl fillers or integrated into natural arrangements, terrariums, and potpourri.
• Craft & Art Projects: Their unique sectioned shape and texture inspire creative possibilities in wreaths, mixed media art, and more.

Aquarium Preparation

1. Boil: Boil for at least 15 minutes to help them sink and leach initial tannins.
2. Soak: Soak in clean water overnight or longer, changing water daily, until fully waterlogged and desired tannin level is reached.
3. Ready to Use: Once they sink and you've achieved your desired water coloration, add to your setup.

Please Note: As a natural product, each pear pod is unique and will vary in size, shape, and coloration. Intended for decorative, craft, and aquarium/vivarium use only. Not for human consumption.
