Ram's Horn Seed Pod

Ram's Horn pods or palm curls are one of the most exotic-looking botanicals in the hobby. Sourced from the Palmyra Palm, Borassus flabellifer, these truly one-of-a-kind pods feature a dramatic curled form that makes them an instant focal point in any terrarium, or natural arrangement.  This is a fan-favorite seed pod of isopods and springtails.

Product Details

• Scientific Name: Borassus flabellifer
• Common Name: Palmyra Palm pod, Ram's Horn pod
• Source Location: India
• Size: Approximately 4 to 7 inches
• 100% Natural: Organically sourced and naturally dried, free from artificial chemicals — safe and sustainable for all applications

Uses

• Aquarium: When properly prepared, Ram's Horn pods release a moderate amount of tannins, promote biofilm, create microfauna hotspots, and contribute to a naturalistic blackwater aquascape. Important note: Ram's Horn pods will lose its tight curl when submerged — they do not hold their curled shape in aquariums.  They also produce a lot of biofilm.
• Bioactive Terrarium: Provides hiding spots and a food source for isopods and springtails, enriches the substrate as they break down, and encourages foraging and exploration. Retains its curled shape in dry terrarium conditions. Isopods and springtails LOVE Ram's Horns.
• Botanical Home Decor: A stunning standalone decorative piece, bowl filler, or natural arrangement accent — the curled form is especially striking in dry displays.
• Craft & Art Projects: Their unique curled shape and texture inspire creative possibilities in wreaths, mixed media art, and botanical art.

Aquarium Preparation

1. Boil: Boil for at least 15 minutes to help them sink and leach initial tannins.
2. Soak: Soak in clean water overnight or longer, changing water daily, until fully waterlogged and desired tannin level is reached.
3. Ready to Use: Once they sink and you've achieved your desired water coloration, add to your tank.

Please Note: As a natural product, each Ram's Horn pod will vary in size, shape, and color. Intended for decorative, craft, and aquarium/vivarium use only. Not for human consumption.
